Effective and future proof: transforming the culture, structure and strategy of a Dutch municipality

As an organisational entity with 2,100 civil servants, the municipality Breda (the Netherlands) has been going through a process of change. Its departments are merged and reorganised between, a new organisational structure is implemented and a shared services centre has been set up. The aim is to make the municipality more effective at dealing with complex legislation, digitalisation, social issues, internationalisation and a networked society. Using the leadership framework that has been prepared by Breda, Krauthammer develops a programme that aims to instil a facilitative (coaching) style of leadership.

Focusing leaders on people and results

The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs selected Krauthammer to create a new management development programme for its senior managers (MDS) and middle managers (MDM). Krauthammer’s MDS aimed to strengthen the competencies of Ministry’s key leaders and provide each with individual attention to areas identified by an earlier assessment. The programme’s overall goal was to create an environment balanced people management with a focus on results. MDM aimed to develop a number of competences and management skills of the Ministry’s middle managers.

Improving advisory skills to promote sustainable development and innovation

Agentschap NL decides to invest in its advisory skills and worked closely with Krauthammer to co-create an effective curriculum. They involve participants in the development of organisation-specific case studies and the design of a pilot programme. This results in a four-day junior-level programme and six-day senior-level programme, which are delivered over the course of a few months. Through customised role plays and case studies, participants hone their advisory skills and attitudes.
